54 year old Doug Benefield's wife passed away with health complications in 2016. Nine months later, he met 24 year old former ballerina Ashley, and married her after a 13 day whirlwind romance. Together they founded a ballet dance company (her dream, Doug knew nothing about dance), but after less than a year of marriage, she left Doug and the company. They were back and forth with a tumultuous relationship, which included her giving birth to their child, while also accusing him of poisoning her. She shot and killed him in Sept 2020, claiming self defense, though she had no injuries or even a scratch on her. In her Stand Your Ground hearing, the judge ruled against her, meaning the charges will stand and a jury will decide her fate.
Was Doug Benefield killed in self defense? Or was his death the result of a bitter custody battle? Join us daily as we watch the evidence unfold on youtube.com/@brandichurchwell
We started 13th Juror Podcast with a simple idea: to follow current high-profile trials, while analyzing and debating the evidence the way a jury does. For season two, we decided to do a deep dive into a case that has since gained national attention. In this breakout hit series, we examine the controversial case against Karen Read. Did she hit her boyfriend, Officer John O'Keefe, with her car and leave him to die in a blizzard? Or is she being framed in a cover-up for a drunken fight gone wrong?
Did the "hos long to die in the cold" search happen at 2:27 am? I asked a programmer, and this is what I learned.
