In Season One, we take a look at different court cases and trials making headlines from all over the country, taking complicated court cases and presenting them as compelling stories, breaking down the details and weighing them from a non-legal perspective, just like jurors do. Some stories will be told start to finish in one episode, others dive a little deeper and will be presented in a short series.
We may have season two out, but season one is still going strong!
Season two is a deep dive into the controversial case of Karen Read- a woman arrested and charged with the murder of her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O'Keefe in January 2022.
The prosecution says she hit John with her car and left him to die in the cold, but Karen's attorneys allege a coverup involving members of multiple law enforcement agencies, all connected through a lifetime of history. Every new piece of information brings new questions, and nothing is what it seems.
In January of 2020, 11 yr old Gannon Stauch is reported missing in Colorado Springs, sparking a massive search effort. As the community looks for signs of the missing child, police & Gannon's father turn their attention to the bizarre behavior of stepmom Letecia- the last person to see him alive.
As the investigation heats up, Letecia goes cross country to start a new life, while blaming Gannon's disappearance on everyone from the drug cartel to sex traffickers. She is arrested in March 2020 for Gannon's murder, and after Gannon's body is found in a suitcase under a Florida bridge, she changes her plea to Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity, claiming she has multiple personalities.
In this seven-part series, we walk through Gannon's story, what happened when Letecia went on the run, and the bizarre trial that lit social media on fire.
Love him or hate him, Aidan Kearney got the attention of the world. Now attorney Mark Bederow has joined attorney Tim Bradl on Turtleboy's defense team and has dropped some bombs in recent court filings.
Turtleboy opens up and shares things he has never shared publicly before about his charges, his enemies, what happened behind the scenes, and what's next.
Best friends Lisa Bunce and Sanda Andrews were sitting on the front porch of Sanda's Florida home after a night out when 60 year old David Murdock pulled up and opened fire. Murdock shot Sanda once in the face, and shot Lisa a total of three times. He then walked outside, called 911, gave them the address, and told them he was sorry, he "had to get rid of the devil".
56 year old Lisa Bunce tragically lost her life that night, but Sanda- her best friend- survived to testify against Murdock.
It took more than 5 eventful years for this case to make it to a jury. During trial, Sanda gives emotional testimony and explains what happened that night. Then, Murdock shocks everyone when he takes the stand- and his defense, is NOT what I was expecting.
Nine months after losing his wife, 54 year old retired Navy pilot Doug Benefield meets 24 year old former ballerina Ashley Byers, and they marry in a secret ceremony in Charleston after 13 days.
Together they founded a ballet company, and made plans to grow their family, but Ashley's tumultuous relationship with Doug's teenage daughter caused problems in their marriage. After less than a year, the ballet and their marriage were falling apart.
Three years of court and custody battles followed- with allegations of domestic violence, stalking, child abuse, and even poisoning. In September of 2020, Ashley shot and killed Doug, claiming self-defense. Was she scared for her life? Or was Ashley determined to get custody at any cost?
